The Český historický ústav v Římě ( Italian Istituto storico ceco di Roma , "Czech Historical Institute in Rome") is a Czech research institution based in Rome . Established in 1993, it is a department of the Historical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences .

The Czech Institute follows the tradition of the Czechoslovak Institute in Rome, founded between 1921 and 1923, which was closed in 1941 after the German occupation and the end of the First Czechoslovak Republic . It is housed in the Pontifical Collegium Nepomucenum . Since 1998 it has been a member of the Unione internazionale degli istituti di archeologia, storia e storia dell'arte in Roma . The library, which is currently being rebuilt, now comprises around 4,000 volumes. The institute publishes the magazine Bollettino dell'Istituto Storico Ceco di Roma . His main scientific tasks include the publication of the Monumenta Vaticana res gestas Bohemicas illustrantia. As part of the international edition project Epistulae et acta nuntiorum apostolicorum apud imperatorem , the institute is responsible for the years 1594–1628.
