Česlovas Vytautas Stankevičius (born February 27, 1937 in Dor Šeštinės, Vilkaviškis district ) is a Lithuanian conservative politician , Seimas vice-president and defense minister of Lithuania . At times (after 1992) he served his country as a diplomat with the rank of ambassador .

Life

In 1956 Stankevičius completed the technical secondary education of a construction technician and acquired the technical diploma at the Kaunas Polytechnic . From 1956 to 1959 he did compulsory service in the Soviet Army in Russia. In 1965, Stankevičius completed his degree ( evening course ) in civil engineering with honors at the building faculty of the Politechnikos institutas in Kaunas . From 1959 to 1990 he worked as a designer at the Institute for Urban Planning.

From 1988 he was active in the Sąjūdis movement in Kaunas . On February 24, 1990, Stankevičius was elected to the Supreme Soviet and in 2008 to the Lithuanian Seimas . Until 2012 he was deputy chairman of the Seimas. Stankevičius was a member of the European Committee, the Committee on National Security and Defense, and the Legal Committee.

He was a member of the Tėvynės Sąjunga - Lietuvos krikščionys demokratai .
