İbrahim Zengin
İbrahim Zengin (* 1931 in Amasya ; † July 10, 2013 in Turhal , Turkey ) was a Turkish wrestler . He was a silver medalist at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne .
Career
İbrahim Zengin came from Amasya and began there as a teenager with the Turkish national sport of oil wrestling . Later he also turned to the Olympic wrestling and developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler in light and welterweight. National coaches Nuri Boytorun and Yaşar Doğu also played a major role in this .
In 1951 he was used at the World Championships in Helsinki for the first time in an international championship. He wrestled in lightweight, free style and took 3rd place. He was defeated by Garibaldo Nizzola from Italy and Olle Anderberg from Sweden .
For the Olympic Games in 1952, he could not qualify. But he succeeded in 1956. In Melbourne he started in the welterweight division and won the silver medal there. In the final he was defeated on points by Mitsuo Ikeda from Japan .
In view of the extremely strong competition and the broad top class that existed in Turkey in the 1950s, Zengin did not come to any further appearances at international championships. In the late 1950s he ended his active wrestling career and became a trainer in Tokat .
