İsmail Hakkı Pekin

İsmail Hakkı Pekin (* 1951 in İznik , Bursa Province ) is a Turkish former Lieutenant General of the Army (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) .

Life

After attending school, Pekin began an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) , which he graduated in 1972. After a subsequent further training at the Infantry School (Piyade Okulu) , which he finished in 1973, it was used as an officer in the 1st Parachute Battalion Airborne Brigade, with whom he to carry out the operation Atilla the occupation of the north of the island of Cyprus by Turkey on July 20, 1974 was involved. After he was commander of the 5th border regiment from 1995 to 1997, he acted as head of the department for general planning of defense research at the headquarters of the army between 1997 and 1998.

After his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) on August 30, 1998, Pekin became head of the Operations and Organizational Planning Division at Army Headquarters and was then commander of the 66th Armored Brigade (66th Zırhlı Tugay) between 2000 and 2002 . On August 30, 2002 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and appointed head of the personnel department at the headquarters of the army. Subsequently, between 2005 and 2006 he was deputy commanding general of the IV Corps and commander of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Division (1st Mekanize Piyade Tümen) .

After Pekin on 30 August 2006 to Lieutenant General (Korgeneral) had been promoted, he became commanding general of the 3rd Army belonging VIII. Corps (VIII. Kolordu) in Elazig . He then became head of the intelligence service in the General Staff of Turkey in August 2007 . He remained in this post until his retirement in 2011, after which he was replaced by Lieutenant General Yaşar Guler .

In the course of the investigation into the Ergenekon conspiracy, Pekin was arrested in 2011 and was in custody until August 2013. In the election of June 7, 2015 , he ran for the left-wing nationalist , Kemalist and socialist Fatherland Party ( Vatan Partisi ) in the constituency of Ankara 1 unsuccessfully for a seat in the Grand National Assembly TBMM (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) .

Pekin, who was awarded the Bronze Medal of Merit of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (Kıbrıs Bronz Liyakat Madalyası) , is married to Nevin Pekin and has two children. In addition to Turkish, he also speaks English .
