Şahin Diniyev (alternative spelling Shahin Diniyev , Russian Шахин Диниев ; Schachin Dinijew ; born July 12, 1966 in Beyləqan Rajon , Azerbaijani SSR ) is a former Azerbaijani football player and current football coach . Most recently he had coached the national soccer team of his home country .

Career

Player career

Şhahin Diniyev began his football career in 1987 with Neftçi Baku in the capital of his home country. Without commitment, he moved to FK Gəncə in the same year . After a short break with the Russian club FK Fakel Voronezh, the Azerbaijani returned to Gəncə and played there until 1992. The last season, however, no longer with FK, but with local rivals Dinamo. Then he went back to Russia to work with Terek Grozny for two years . From 1994 to 1996 Diniyev played in Israel with Hapoel Tayyibe and Beitar Tel Aviv. Then he let his career end where he started it - in the capital Baku of his home country. Until 1998 he played there with the teams of Farid and Dinamo Baku.

National team

From 1992 to 1996 Şhahin Diniyev completed 16 international matches for the national soccer team of Azerbaijan .

Coaching career

Diniyev initially worked as a youth coach before he got his first head coach at FK Qarabağ Ağdam and later his former club FK Gəncə . In November 2005 he got the job as national coach for his country. His goal was to restructure the national team and attach great importance to the inclusion of young talented players. In their first game against Ukraine at the Tofiq Bəhramov Stadium , his team drew 0-0. But two unsuccessful years later, the Azerbaijani Football Association publicly announced its dissatisfaction with Diniyev's work for the first time. The fans also called for resignation as national coach after the 1: 6 defeat against Serbia . Diniyev gave in to the demands and resigned as national coach.
