history

The village was founded in 1880 and named after the then Finance Minister Count Gyula Szapary Szapáryfalva . The first settlers were 156 Hungarian, 127 German and 17 Slovak families. They were tobacco farmers and for this purpose initially received four and later eight yoke fields. Germans also came to Zipar through internal migration from Deutsch Zerne and later from Glogowatz .

Zipar's Roman Catholic Church was built in 1909/1910. The parish received 18,000 kroner from the Ministry of Religion, 40,000 kroner from the Ministry of Agriculture and 5,000 kroner from diocesan Bishop Alexander Dessewffy . The villagers themselves made 350,000 bricks. The equipment was financed by donations. The high altar with the sculpture of the Holy Trinity was made by the Tyrolean altar maker and sculptor Ferdinand Stufleser.
