Rohkunstbau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rohkunstbau is an international series of exhibitions for contemporary art . It takes place annually in Brandenburg at different exhibition locations and lasts 10 weeks each. The first Rohkunstbau was held in 1994.

The series of exhibitions supports contemporary art and culture, as well as the rediscovery and revitalization of almost forgotten cultural sites in the rural regions of Brandenburg. The series of exhibitions goes back to an initiative of the medical doctor Arvid Boellert, who oversees the project together with the curator Mark Gisbourne. The exhibition concept brings together contemporary visual arts from internationally known and young Brandenburg art under topic-specific and site-specific guidelines. As a rule, each exhibition is accompanied by a catalog.

Word creation "Rohkunstbau"

The name of the exhibition is an artificial word. The name goes back to the first exhibition location: a concrete hall in Groß Leuthen near Lübben , which was built in 1989 for the GDR Workers' Festival but was never completed, but remained in the shell. The exhibition organizers made the hall usable and used it for five years. From 1999 the exhibition moved one after the other to various vacant Brandenburg castles, which were only ever available for temporary use.
