Marcel Dzama
Marcel Dzama (* 1974 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian draftsman , object artist and filmmaker .
biography
Marcel Dzama studied at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and has worked as an artist in New York and Winnipeg since 1996 . He is co-founder of the Royal Art Lodge , a Canadian artists' association and is represented by the Sies + Höke gallery in Düsseldorf and the David Zwirner Gallery in New York.
Dzama created album covers for the musicians Beck ( Guero and Guerolito ), The Weakerthans ( Reconstruction Site ) and the EP cover for the band They Might Be Giants ( Bed, Bed, Bed ). He also plays in a band called Albatross Note , for whose album covers (including The Art Lodge Tapes ) he is also responsible.
He worked with director Spike Jonze on the film Sad Ghost .
style
Marcel Dzama is known for his small-format ink and watercolor drawings, which mainly depict the merging of humans and animals. In addition to drawing, his artistic work also includes video installations, sculptural art and polyptych works.
