Zofia Kulik

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zofia Kulik (born September 14, 1947 in Wrocław ( Breslau )) is a Polish artist who primarily uses photography and montage in her work.

Life

Zofia Kulik studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts ( Akademia Sztuk Pięknych ) in Warsaw from 1965 to 1971 . Between 1970 and 1988 she formed the artist duo KwieKulik with Przemyslaw Kwiek . Under this name, the duo also exhibited the works together. Since 1987 Kulik has also been working alone and has exhibited in solo exhibitions under her own name.

Most of her works result from the montage of serial black-and-white photographs that were created through multiple exposures. The use of axes of symmetry and strong contrasts creates a decorative impression at first glance, which, however, becomes fragile again due to the choice of motif (violence, war, religion). In addition to the arrangement in series, she also shows her work individually, in display boxes, or together with curtains and other objects. In addition to her well-known works in black and white, Kulik also works with the means of color photography (cibachrome prints).

Kulik lives and works in Łomianki-Dąbrowa near Warsaw.
