Elke Krystufek is a visual artist and author. Since her first major solo exhibition at the Vienna Secession in 1997, she has been working on the subject of archives. Her picture atlas of postcard-sized photographs exhibited there with the title I am your mirror borrowed from Nan Goldin and Gerhard Richter . With the Liquid Logic exhibition at the MAK under the direction of Peter Noever at the time , who granted her access to all museum depots, she drew comparisons between a thematically arranged selection of pieces from the depots, some of which had never been shown before, and the biography of the Dutch-American, who disappeared in 1975 Artist Bas Jan Ader . Excerpts from a film that she shot in connection with the exhibition on Easter Island can be viewed on YouTube in connection with a lecture by the artist at the Brooklyn Museum in New York . In 2009 she represented Austria in the Austrian Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale together with Dorit Margreiter and Franziska and Lois Weinberger , where she dealt with the art-historical phenomenon of a male nude model painted by a heterosexual woman and Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's last film Tabu .

Since the solo exhibition in February 2011, Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects has been managing part of the Elke Silvia Krystufek archive on the subject of immigration. On April 13, 2011 the play “Hub” by Elke Krystufek was premiered in Garage X , Theater am Petersplatz in Vienna. On May 27, 2011, the artist's first work in public space, the outdoor sculpture Wall of Silence in the Grafenegg palace gardens, was destroyed at the request of Tassilo Metternich-Sándor . Documentation of the destruction and a fragment of the sculpture are archived as a gift from the artist in the Lower Austrian State Museum .

In December 2009 the Elke Silvia Krystufek Archive was founded. Since then, numerous exhibitions from the archive curated by the artist have taken place in international galleries and institutions. From November 2011 the artist will use a new artist name exclusively for the projects she has curated: Elke Silvia Krystufek as her own work of art . The name is only used for works that are also signed with this name or are certified by a certificate signed by the artist. Most of the works from this period are signed with Arabic lettering, as Elke Silvia Krystufek has primarily dealt with Islam since January 2010. After the artist canceled the HARMONIE 20 exhibition at Haus am Waldsee in Berlin in September 2012, she founded Salon Jirout in Berlin and subsequently the One Gallery with an international program. For Juwelier Koechert a gold ring was designed by Elke Silvia Krystufek for the exhibition 200 years of jeweler Koechert jeweler of the emperors . In November 2014, Elke Silvia Krystufek changed her representation in Austria for the second time. After Georg Kargl was legally convicted by Galerie Kargl in 2008 for refusing to return works, she switched to Galerie Meyer Kainer at the end of 2008 and from there to Galerie Charim at the end of 2014 due to the lack of presentation of her works at domestic and international art fairs.
