Robert Lucander
Robert Lucander (* 1962 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish painter , draftsman , graphic artist and professor at the Berlin University of the Arts .
life and work
Lucander was born in Helsinki in 1962. In 1982 he passed his Abitur at the Gymnasiet Lärkan in Helsinki. Lucander has lived and worked in Berlin since 1988 . He studied from 1989 to 1995 at the Berlin University of the Arts with Marwan Kassab-Bachi . There he dealt with constructivist painting, with Piet Mondrian and Kasimir Malewitsch , next to Gerhard Richter and Blinky Palermo . His works in this phase are abstract , until 1997 he mainly used a geometric design language. From 1995 motivic details appear in his works, from 1996 then central representations of people. His work is characterized by a complexity in the choice of materials as well as in the topics. Lucander likes to use pencils and acrylic on wooden panels. At the same time, he uses large canvases. His work is about a mental state that is captured artistically, but can only be seen for a moment.
From 2007 to 2010 Lucander was initially visiting professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, and since 2010 he has held a professorship for painting there. Since the 1990s he has participated in various solo and group exhibitions in Scandinavia and Germany . His works are also represented in numerous contemporary art museums in Finland , Germany and other countries.
