β-Defensin 2 is a protein from the group of defensins .
properties
As a defensin, β-defensin is an antimicrobial peptide that is increasingly formed in the course of the immune response . β-Defensin is produced by neutrophils and epithelial cells in the skin and in the airways . It has an antibacterial effect against Candida and Gram-negative bacteria. β-Defensin binds to CCR6 and triggers chemotaxis in the CCR6-bearing cells . Below a concentration of 2.4 mM it is present as a monomer .
