Мастер (often referred to as Master ) is a Russian thrash metal band from Moscow that was formed in 1987.

history

The band was formed in 1987 after guitarist Andrei Bolshakov, bassist Alik Granovsky, drummers Igor Molchanov and Alexandr Lvov, and keyboardist Kirill Pokrovsky left their previous band Arija (Ария, alternatively transcribed as Aria) due to a conflict with their producer Victor Vekstein had. Alexandr Lvov joined the band Gorky Park shortly afterwards . Igor Molchanov then set Master as the appropriate band name for the group after returning from rehearsals with Alik Granovsky. Molchanov introduced Sergei Popov as the second guitarist, while Alexandr Arzamaskov joined as a singer. After a few months, however, he had to leave the band again because his voice was weakened due to health problems. Mikhail Seryshev joined the cast as the new singer. Within half a year the band recorded their self-titled debut album and was then released on the Melodia label. Various concerts then followed. In 1988 further tours followed, with the band also playing in Poland and Belgium . In 1989 concerts in the Soviet Union and Belgium followed. In addition, the band recorded their second album С Петлей на Шее in the home studio of producer Yury Sokolov . The album was also released through Melodia. The following year the band held gigs across Europe . In addition, the band worked a lot in Belgium from 1989 and 1991 and wrote their first English-language album, which would be called Empire of Evil and contain the best songs of the first two songs rewritten in English. However, the label Two Flags Records went bankrupt, so the album never appeared.

The written material was later released in Russia as the Talk of the Devil album. During the recordings were bassist Alik Granovsky, sound engineer and guitarist Andrei Bolshakov and singer Mikhail Seryshev. Drummer Igor Molchanov and keyboardist Kirill Pokrovsky had decided to stay in Belgium. Sergei Popov could still be heard on the album as a session guitarist before he left the band. Various musicians could be heard as drummers on the album: Andrey Shatunovsky in the songs Danger , Live to Die , Fallen Angel and Tsar , A. Moiseev I Hate Your Sex , P. Chinyakov in Paranoid , S. Efimov in Heroes and V. Ermakov in Talk of the Devil . Igor Kozhin could also be heard as the guitarist on Heroes . The recordings were recorded by Evgeny Trushin in the SNC studio and released via Moroz Records . In 1991, Mikhail Seryshev took part in the Russian version of Jesus Christ Superstar . The CD version of this was released in 1995 via Anima Vox . In spring 1992 followed a tour together with Sepultura , the appearances in Moscow, Saint Petersburg , Vilnius and Riga . Drummer Shatunovsky and guitarist Igor Kozhin helped out as tour musicians. the following year guitarist Vyacheslav Sidorov and drummer Anatoli Shenderov joined the band as new members. Shortly afterwards, however, guitarist Andrei Bolshakov left the band. The band then consisted of bassist Alik Granovsky, singer Mikhail Seryshev, guitarist Vyacheslav Sidorov and drummer Anatoli Shenderov. Shortly before the recordings for the album Maniac Party , which took place in the SNC studio, guitarist Sidorov left the band and was replaced by Sergei Popov for the recordings. The album was released in 1994 via Apex Records on CD and cassette, and on vinyl via PolyGram . In 1995 the band, consisting of Granovsky, Seryshev, Shenderov, Popov, released their first live album Live on Bekar Records . In 1999 Gennady Matveev joined the band as a keyboard player for studio recordings. In 1999, work began on the album Лабиринт . Since Mikhail Seryshev was already involved as a singer in the church choir and the opera, the band looked for a suitable singer, who was found in Lexx. The last concert with Seryshev took place on October 23, 1999. Granovsky, Fomin, Milovanov and Lexx then went to the studio to record the album.
