(1009) Sirene is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 31, 1923 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth , who worked at the observatory on the Königstuhl near Heidelberg .

The asteroid is named after the mythological figures of the sirens .
