(1042) Amazone is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on April 22, 1925 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory at the University of Heidelberg .
At the suggestion of the astronomer Gustav Stracke , the asteroid is named after the South American river Amazon .
