(1286) Banachiewicza is an asteroid of the main belt discovered on August 25, 1933 by the Belgian astronomer Sylvain Julien Victor Arend in Ukkel .

The name of the asteroid is reminiscent of the Polish astronomer and director of the Kraków Observatory, Tadeusz Banachiewicz .
