(1509) Esclangona is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 21 December 1938 by the French astronomer André Patry in Nice was discovered. The name of the asteroid is reminiscent of the French astronomer Ernest Esclangon .

(1509) Esclangona is one of the asteroids that have a small moon . This Trabant, discovered in 2003, has the provisional designation S / 2003 (1509) 1 . Measurements have shown a diameter of about 4 km for the moon. It has an unusually large distance of about 140 km from the asteroid, which indicates an unusual history of formation. Possibly the system goes back to an impact of larger bodies, as a result (1509) Esclangona and the moon were thrown away as ejection material.
