(15239) Stenhammar is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 4 February 1989 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the European Southern Observatory was discovered.
It was named in honor of the Swedish composer , conductor and pianist Wilhelm Stenhammar , who was one of the most important Swedish composers and who directed the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra as chief conductor from 1907 to 1922 .
