(1642) Hill is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 4 September 1951 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth at Heidelberg State Observatory King chair of the University of Heidelberg was discovered.

The asteroid is named after the American astronomer and mathematician George William Hill .
