(1643) Brown is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 4, 1951 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory at the University of Heidelberg .
The asteroid is named after the British astronomer Ernest William Brown .
