(166) Rhodope is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 15 August 1876 by the German-American astronomer Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters was discovered.

The asteroid was named after Rhodope , who in Greek mythology is the personification of the Rhodope mountain range and daughter of the river god Strymon .
