(1689) Floris-Jan is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 16, 1930 by the Dutch astronomer Hendrik van Gent in Johannesburg .

The asteroid is named after Floris-Jan van der Meulen , the 5000th visitor to an astronomical exhibition.
