(20016) Rietschel is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 8, 1991 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian state observatory in Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .

The asteroid was named on May 9, 2001 after the German sculptor of late classicism Ernst Rietschel (1804–1861), who was one of the most important monument artists of his time and who created the Lessing monument in Braunschweig .
