(22222) Hodios is an asteroid belonging to the group of Jupiter Trojans . This describes asteroids that move around the sun on the Lagrange points on Jupiter's orbit .

(22222) Hodios was discovered on September 30, 1973 by the Dutch astronomers Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels at the Palomar Observatory ( IAU code 675). It is assigned to the Lagrangian point L 4 .

The asteroid is named after the mythological Greek herald Hodios , who together with the herald Eurybates , with Odysseus and Phoinix as a member of the pleading (Presbeia) wanted to get Achilles to intervene again before Troy .
