(24711) Chamisso is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 6, 1991 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .

The asteroid was named on May 26, 2002 after the German naturalist and poet of French descent Adelbert von Chamisso (1781-1838).
