(29227) Wegener is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on February 29, 1992 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian state observatory in Tautenburg .

The asteroid was named after the German geophysicist, polar researcher and meteorologist Alfred Wegener , the founder of the theory of plate tectonics .
