(3279) Solon is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 17, 1960 by the Dutch research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels as part of the Palomar-Leiden Survey .

The name of the asteroid is derived from the historical Greek statesman and lyric poet Solon .
