(3338) Richter is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt that was discovered on October 28, 1973 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Karl Schwarzschild Observatory in Thuringia .
The asteroid was named after the German astronomer Nikolaus Richter , director of the Karl Schwarzschild Observatory from 1960 to 1975.
