(3808) Tempel is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on March 24, 1982 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian state observatory in Tautenburg ( IAU code 033).

The asteroid was named after the German astronomer and lithographer Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel (1821–1889), who discovered the comets Tempel-Tuttle and Tempel 1 .
