(4486) Mithra is an Apollo asteroid that crosses the Earth and Mars orbit . It was discovered on September 22, 1987 by Eric Elst and W. G. Schkodrow .
Radar surveys of the asteroid revealed a strongly bifurcated shape with two large protrusions.
The asteroid is named after the Persian god Mithra .
