(4556) Gumilyov is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 27, 1987 by the Ukrainian astronomer Lyudmila Georgievna Karachkina at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).

The asteroid was named after the Russian poet of the Silver Age Nikolai Stepanowitsch Gumiljow (1886–1921).
