(5255) John Sophie is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 19 May 1988 by Eleanor F. Helin at Palomar Observatory was discovered in California.
It was named in memory of John and Sophie Karayusuf, the parents of Alford Karayusuf, a friend of the explorer. Under the starry sky of the Syrian desert, they inspired their children to study the stars and planets.
