Reticent Adrian Lester travels from New York to his old home in Texas for the holidays. The man in his mid-twenties has not been to Fort Worth for three years and wants to use Christmas to tell his family about his HIV infection. His mother Eileen almost crushes him with attention and affection, while his younger brother Andrew takes a detachment.

Directed by Yen Tan . In 1985 it is an expansion of Tan's short film of the same name from 2016. After Tan showed the loneliness of gay men in a small town in Texas in his last feature film, Pit Stop , he put a young man at the center of the story in 1985 , who was in Bible belt grew up. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter assumes that the situation there for many young people who grew up in similar circumstances has not changed much in the last 30 years.
Cory Michael Smith took on the role of homecoming Adrian Smith. Virginia Madsen plays his mother Eileen, Aidan Langford his brother Andrew. Michael Chiklis took over the role of the Vietnamese veterinarian Dale .
The film was shot in black and white in 16 mm format. Hutch acted as cameraman.
The film premiered on March 9, 2018 as part of the South by Southwest Film Festival . A theatrical release in Brazil took place on April 25, 2019. On October 26, 2019 it will come to selected US cinemas.

Reviews
So far, the film has received approval from 95 percent of all Rotten Tomatoes critics and achieved an average rating of 7.3 out of a possible 10 points.
David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter writes that when the textures of 16mm black and white recordings and the calm, melodic score conjure up echoes of the past, the motivation to see such a dark time in queer history again is not immediately clear, but Yen Tan seems to be reacting to the regressive tightening of stubborn conservative values and intolerance of a life in the USA today.
