201 is the sixth episode of season 14, making it the 201st episode of the South Park series . It is the second part of the two-part a parody on the taboo Mohammed display. Due to threats by Islamist extremists, this episode was only broadcast censored by Comedy Central and initially not published on the Internet.

action

After a brief flashback from Mitch Connor - Cartman's hand with schizophrenic consciousness - in the Vietnam War in Saigon in 1971, the story of the 200th episode continues. Cartman continues to want to know from Mr. Garrison who his father is; however, Mr. Garrison refuses to answer, but refers him to Dr. Mephisto.

At the same time, the redheads continue to demand the extradition of Mohammed . The Islamic prophet disguised as a teddy bear then opens his costume, but below it is not Mohammed, but Santa Claus . While the population and the redheads argue about why the real Mohammed is not under the costume, Robo- Streisand is already approaching , who wants to continue to destroy all of South Park. When “The Superbest Friends” - including Jesus and Buddha - heard of the attack, they too set off for South Park.

Cartman is already at Mephisto's to find out who his real father is. However, he is interrupted by Stan, Kyle and Kenny, who have now found the real Mohammed and want to have him cloned by Mephisto. Back in South Park, however, they are surprised by the redheads who kidnap Mohammed and, together with the celebrities, want to transfer his powers.

After the big argument and the realization that it is pointless to fight against each other and to transfer the powers of Muhammad; Kyle summarizes in a monologue what he has learned from all of this. This is confirmed by Jesus and Santa Claus. However, these statements were censored with a beep by the television station Comedy Central .

censorship

The information about the censoring of episode 201 on the German South Park website

The 201st episode of South Park was also released after the 200th episode . withdrawn from Comedy Central , will not be repeated or posted on the internet. In contrast to episode 200, the first broadcast was also censored by audio censorship of the name "Mohammed" and Kyle's final monologue. The decisive factor was the same reason that there was fear of an attack by Islamist extremists, as published on a radical Islamic website.

If you wanted to watch the episode on the official site, only the following text appeared: “We apologize that South Park Studios cannot stream episode 201 at this time. After we delivered the show, and prior to broadcast, Comedy Central placed numerous additional audio bleeps throughout the episode. We do not have network approval to stream our original version of the show. We will bring you a version of 201 as soon as we can. "

The episode will not be broadcast in Germany or other countries either, only in Canada the episode was broadcast once (with the same audio censorship) shortly after it was first broadcast in America.

Along with episodes 200 and 201, the episode The League of Super Best Friends , in which Mohammed was seen entirely uncensored, was also blocked from the website.

Later came a comment from Trey Parker and Matt Stone that said, “In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it. ”(“ In the 14 years that we've done South Park, we've never made an episode, behind We got our version on Comedy Central and they decided to change the episode. That wasn't a meta-level joke on our part. Kyle's usual ending speech was actually about intimidation and fear. Mohammed Wasn't mentioned in it, but it was also beeped. We'll be back next week with a whole new episode about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it. ") emphasizing that it was Comedy Central itself that did this Episode was censored as it was seen for a short time.

reception

The South Park parody of episodes 200 and 201 received a lot of media coverage.

In the Simpsons episode whale relationship , the Simpsons developers reacted in their blackboard gag with the saying South Park - we'd stand beside you if we weren't so scared (translated: South Park: We'd stand by your side if we) not be so afraid ) of the censorship.

As a reaction to the Mohammed censorship in the two episodes, which many interpreted as giving way to Islamist threats, internet users all over the world called for Everybody Draw Mohammed Day on May 20th , on which as many people as possible make a drawing of Mohammed and save it Internet should publish. Due to the large number of visitors to the relevant Facebook group, the Pakistani government blocked access to Facebook in their country on May 19, 2010.
