The 231st Infantry Division was a major unit of the Army of the German Wehrmacht in World War II .

Division history

Operational areas:

  • Germany : September to November 1939
  • Poland : November 1939 to June 1940
  • Germany: June to August 1940

The 231st Infantry Division was established in August 1939 in Nuremberg in Military District XIII as a division of the third wave set. It was subordinated to the 1st Army and then served as an army reserve near Kaiserslautern . In November 1939 she was awarded the XXXIV. Army corps moved to Poland and was then an occupation force in the south of the country. Before the start of the western campaign , the 231st Infantry Division was moved to the Ohrdruf military training area, where it was disbanded in July 1940. Their troops were divided between the 11th and 20th Panzer Divisions and guard units from prisoner-of-war camps.
