3,3'-Diaminobenzidine is used in biochemistry as a chromogenic substrate for immunostaining with a horseradish peroxidase and, after oxidation with hydrogen peroxide, provides a brown dye that is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol , e.g. B. in an immunoperoxidase assay , western blot and immunohistochemistry .
