40 Grit was an American groove metal band from Concord , California that was formed in 1996 and split in 2004.

history

The band was formed in 1996 by guitarist and singer James Santiago, guitarist Chris Anderson, bassist Kevin Young and drummer Mike Bennet. Performances followed in 1998, with the group serving as the opening act for Stormtroopers of Death . This meant that Santiago and Young were able to backing vocals for Stormtroopers of Death's Bigger Than the Devil album, which was released in 1999. In the same year, the band also played with Skinlab and Crowbar, among others . At the end of the year, after three attempts with various demos , the band reached a contract with Metal Blade Records , about which the debut album Heads was released in August 2000 . The release was followed by appearances with SOiL , Meshuggah , Pro-Pain and Nothingface . In April 2001, drummer Mike Bennet was replaced by Andy Green. This was followed by further tours and work on a new album. The album Nothing to Remember was released in March 2003. In the same year the band went on tour with Ankla , Pissing Razors , Society 1 and Luxt . Young left the band in June and was replaced by Ryan Healy before the band split up in February 2004. Anderson, Green and Healy later formed the band The Miserables with the former Skinlab guitarist.

style

The band plays groove metal, and the songs are very reminiscent of the works of Machine Head .
