5th Avenue is a German rock band from Hamburg that has existed since 1989. She was one of the first bands to play at Wacken Open Air . The band has been playing live again since December 2012.
history
5th Avenue was founded in 1989 in Hamburg as a rock band . On 24./25. In August 1990 she played alongside the bands Ax 'n Sex , Motoslug, Sacret Season, Skyline and Wizzard as one of the first bands at Wacken Open Air. The band played at various festivals and as the opening act for bands such as Katrina and the Waves , Little River Band , Plan B , Saxon , Mama's Boys and DAD .
In 1994 5th Avenue signed a recording deal with the major label Dream Circle Records / Polydor . The debut album was recorded at the Goodnight LA studios under the direction of Roger Summers. The first single Luka was successful on the radio. This was followed by line-up changes and tensions in the band. The album was not released.
So after the first Wacken Open Air in 1990 they were invited to the festivals in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1995. In 1994 and 1995, 5th Avenue was voted the most popular Hamburg act by the readers of Hamburger Morgenpost, ahead of some established artists such as Blumfeld and Marius Müller-Westernhagen .
In early 1996 the band broke up. She played for the 20th anniversary of the Wacken Festival (2009), but not with the original line-up and without her own compositions.
On December 2nd, 2012 the band gave a comeback concert in the traditional Kaiserkeller . Due to the great response, the band continued and played a.o. a. as a special guest at the Metal Dayz in the market hall. In 2014 the EP It's Been a Long Way was released , mixed by Dennis Ward ( Tesla , Unisonic ).
For the 25th anniversary of the Wacken Open Air , 5th Avenue played there for the seventh time in 2014 and celebrated their own 25th band anniversary with an extensive festival tour .
In 2015 the band went on tour at the invitation of the Hooters . In the Chameleon Studio they recorded a new album live under the direction of Eike Freese and Alexander Dietz ( Deep Purple , Saga , Gamma Ray , Heaven Shall Burn ). In 2016 5th Avenue signed a record deal with Keiler Records. In 2016 the album Last Greetings From The Petting Zoo was released .
