7 World Trade Center , also 7 WTC for short ( Seven World Trade Center , German World Trade Center Building No. 7), is a skyscraper in New York City . It was built on the site of the former World Trade Center 7 after it collapsed as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks . The new building was completed in 2006. The address of the building is 250 Greenwich Street .
Architecture and description
As early as 2002, the building owner, the real estate company Silverstein Properties , commissioned the construction of the new 7 World Trade Center. The building was officially opened in 2006. It was the first structure in the new World Trade Center complex. The new 7 WTC is 228 meters high and has 52 floors. It exceeds the old 7 WTC by 42 meters and five floors. However, it is much slimmer than its predecessor. Safety aspects played an important role in the construction of the building. Fire protection has been significantly improved, and the building also has a solid concrete core. The new 7 World Trade Center is considered to be one of the safest skyscrapers in the world. The building, the facade of which was completely clad with glass, was designed by the American architect David Childs of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill . He also designed the 541 meter high One World Trade Center , which is only a few meters away from the 7th WTC.
