Aït Abdallah or Aït Abdullah ( Arabic ايت عبد الله, Taschelhit ⴰⵢⵜ ⵄⴱⴷⴰⵍⵍⴰⵀ Ayt Ɛbdallah ) is a small Berber town with about 500 and a rural community ( commune rurale ) with about 2,000 inhabitants in the Anti Atlas in the Moroccan region of Souss-Massa in the province of Taroudannt .

location

Aït Abdallah is located about 36 km northeast of Tafraoute on the road to Igherm (R106), which has been paved since about 2008, at an altitude of about 1505  m . The Berber town of Tiguermine , located about 12 km to the northeast, is part of the municipality. In spring, the place sometimes receives some water from the Assif Oussaka stream .

economy

In the past, barley was grown on the formerly terraced, but barren and stony soils ; As a result of reduced or no rainfall since the 1970s, agriculture in the region was almost entirely given up. The men looked for work as day laborers or small business owners in the cities of the north or in Europe and so the residents of the place live mainly on cash transfers.

history

Most of the places in the region have a history that goes back centuries, but no written evidence exists. The only historical sources are oral traditions and the centuries-old agadirs , which on the one hand allow conclusions to be drawn about the way of life of transhumance and on the other hand point to constant rivalries between the villages and to attacks by migrating nomadic tribes .

The simple single-storey houses built of rock and clay with their roofs made of crooked argan branches with a layer of straw and reed and a cover made of reed mats and earth have gradually all been abandoned since the 1960s and are made up of new houses with walls - painted in reddish tones Hollow blocks and a foundation and concrete slabs have been replaced.

Attractions

  • The new place consists of red-washed houses with walls made of hollow blocks and stairs as well as concrete floors and has no sights whatsoever. Only ruins remain of the stone and mud houses of the old town center ( Assaka ).
Surroundings
  • The small Agadir Tagadirt is about 3 km away on a 300 m high hill above the village.
  • The large storage castle of the neighboring village of Amzaour (Agadir Zghnghen ) located about 5 km to the northeast is also located on a hilltop and is surrounded by the mostly new houses in the village.
  • In the village of Tiguermine, a road branches off to the north - which can also be used by car in dry weather - which branches off again to the south-west after about 10 kilometers and ends at Agadir Tasguent . Further agadirs of (e.g. Itourhaine (also Aït Ourhain ) or Dou Tagadirt ) can be found within a radius of only 5 to 10 km.
