AOK are a fun metal band from Frankfurt am Main , who call their music style "Nothing Core". Their music can be described as a mix of heavy metal , punk and cabaret . The band flirts with their musical ineptitude. The band was best known for their extravagant stage show, which includes food battles and partial nudity of the band members.

history

The band AOK was founded in 1987 while on vacation in Spain. When a photo of Peter Bernd, Jochen Graf, Michael Geisel and Frank Steinert was taken, it was decided shortly afterwards that they were a band.

The name of the band was inspired by a German health insurance company, but in this case the abbreviation means "Anal or Kot". The band describes their style itself, alluding to hardcore , as Nothing Core .

In 1989 AOK released the LP Anal or Kot on the controversial record company Metal Enterprises . Among the songs are Buffo, You have fat in your hair and Frank Thorwarth from Tankard has no sparrow swipes at the befriended band Tankard .

The album Baguette Attack was released a year later, but there was no musical improvement. The band split from their drummer Frank Steinert. The official reason was that he had been rehearsing in secret. Ewu Wiese replaced him.

In 1991 the album Hardcore Cabaret was released . The cover was designed by Fillippo Spadaro. Pictured are caricatures of several celebrities in a padded cell, u. a. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Thomas Gottschalk . Shortly after the album was released, Ewu Wiese left again. He was replaced by Stefan Zimmerling.

In 1992, the first video appeared live and sick . In 1993 AOK toured Germany with Tankard, Tiamat and Morgoth .

After the mini-LP for the video was released in 1992, the next album, There's a Life After Breakfast , was released in 1995 . Here, too, cover versions , own pieces and smaller skits alternate. In the same year they also released the album Eine Kuh full versions . Michael Geisel left the band for personal reasons. The guitarist became known for daring stunts on stage, e.g. B. stage diving with the help of a trampoline. He died in Berlin in 2004.

It wasn't until 1996 that the band managed to get out of the contract with Metal Enterprises. They then switched to Bellaphon. There the album Fettischisten was released . Bassist Gerald Fend joined the band. Together with Bela B. and Rodrigo González , AOK released the maxi CD Das Büblein wants to be a girl in the same year . This year AOK also had their 9.5 year anniversary. For this reason, they released their third video, 9.5 years of bullshit .

The band then took an eight year release hiatus. The band was still active live and played u. a. at the festivals With Full Force , Summermania and the Blind Guardian Open Air . It was only in 2004 that they returned with the album Kinderlieder frei from 18 . On this album, songs by metal bands such as Slayer ( Butzemannslayer ) and Metallica ( Wischmob ) are parodied by the tracks mentioned .

In 2006 the album Dreilochbegehbar & Herrenrundentauglich was released . The album only partially found its way onto the market because of an allegedly sexist cover. On January 31, 2007, the indexing took place by the federal inspection agency .

Roland Jacob left the band in 2009 for personal reasons. He was a member of the group for 18 years. After the band continued on their way with only one guitar, the album Im Geiste simply followed in August 2011 . Only a month later, Axel Bernhard, the second guitarist, left the band after only five years. Florian Decher has been a guitarist in the band since 2012.
