course

The road branches off the A970 at Hillside on Mainland . It leads in a northerly direction and reaches the east coast of Mainland with the inlet Dales Voe . A few kilometers north, after a total distance of around 16 km, the road ends at the Toft ferry terminal .

After the ferry crossing to Yell, the A968 continues its course in Ulsta . There, the B9081 branches off, which leads along the south and east coast, while the A968 initially runs north along the west coast, then bends to the east and takes the B9081 again at Mid Yell . Going around the inlet of Basta Voe , the A968 reaches Sellafirth and finally the coastal town of Gutcher on the northeast coast. The total distance on Yell is around 29 km.

Crossing Bluemull-Sund with a ferry connection , the A968 continues on Unst. It touches Belmont (see also Belmont House ) and Uyeasound and crosses Unst in a north-northeast direction. It finally reaches the main town on the island of Baltasound on the east coast. The A968 ends a few kilometers north in Haroldswick . The B9068 runs as an extension of the road in a north-westerly direction and ends at the Burra Firth . On Unst, the A968 is 16 km long and thus has a total length of 61 km.
