The 1982/83 season was the second regular season of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League . During the regular season, the six teams were to play 64 games each, but the schedule had to be revised due to the premature, financially-related, exit of the Hampton Roads Gulls . In the play-offs, the Carolina Thunderbirds prevailed and won the Bob Payne Trophy for the first time in their club's history .
