ACME

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ACME ( English acme 'summit', 'high point', from ancient Greek ἀκμή akmē 'high point') is often used in the English-speaking world as a name for a fictitious company . Further examples are Finder-Spyder , Oceanic Airlines or Morley Cigarettes .

The term became known with the animated films of Warner Bros. and Disney , in particular the Road Runner series, and stands for a fictional company. In order not to come into conflict with the US American trademark law , the cartoonists invented a company that produces all the items that are needed in the films. From everyday consumer products like clothing and toothpaste to fancy items like pocket rockets and laser cannons , there's nothing ACME doesn't make. There are indications in various Warner Bros. animated series that ACME is operated by Road Runner personally (e.g. in Road Runner: To Beep or not to Beep, Freeze Frame; Tiny Toon in a lawsuit). Only later was the word ACME interpreted as a backronym for A C ompany that M anufactures / M akes E verything (A company that manufactures everything) or A merican C ompany that M anufactures / M akes E verything . In the film Wrong Game with Roger Rabbit , based on the company, the character Marvin Acme was introduced as the owner of this fictional company.

However, there have been and are several real companies trading as ACME .
