Rental car classification

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rental car classification in a car rental company is not based on manufacturer or model, but rather according to a four-digit code, the so-called ACRISS, SIPP (short for Standard Interline Passenger Procedures) or CRS code. The code assigns each vehicle to a vehicle group depending on various parameters such as size, equipment and drive. As a renter of a rental car, the customer of a car rental company does not generally order a specific vehicle, but only a vehicle group. Which rental car the renter ultimately receives from the landlord depends, among other things, on the current stock of the rental company on site.

The code was set by the merger of the car rental companies ACRISS (Association of Car Rental Industry Systems Standards) . The use of the code is reserved for members and partners of ACRISS, including: Avis , Europcar , Hertz , Alamo and National as full members and, for example, Enterprise and Budget as partners. The code is published in English and is used uniformly worldwide.

In 2006 the code was expanded. New vehicle classes have been added for high-quality vehicles (“Elite” category) and particularly large vehicles (“Oversize” category, including the Hummer ). In addition, modern drive concepts such as hybrid and LPG as well as the differentiation of all-wheel drive were introduced. The revised code is downward compatible ; the coding can be found in the following table.
