location

The building is located in the Centrala staden district , in the immediate vicinity of Lundagård Park and the main building of Lund University . 100 m to the west is Kungshuset , 200 m south of Lund Cathedral .

Building history

The building was built from 1850 to 1851 according to plans by Hans Jakob Strömberg , a pupil of Carl Georg Brunius , in the Gothic style as a square structure with two floors. The edges ended with corner towers . As early as 1868, an extension was built on the north-eastern flank to S: t Annagatan , where a hall for the choral society was set up on the top floor in 1881.

Between 1909 and 1911, a northern wing in the Romanesque style was completed according to plans by Fredrik Sundbärg . This part of the building offers one with a gable and a bay window provided buttress high and a six-story tower, right next to the original building. A common main entrance with a retracted portal and a stepped gable was created between the new tower and the already existing corner tower . A bronze relief by Axel Ebbe was installed here a little later .

In 1946, the north wing was expanded based on drawings by Hans Westman . New rooms for a restaurant were created between the risalit and the round tower. In 1947 a student dormitory was built on S: t Annagatan , north of the extension built in 1868.

Because of the many additions, the building was nicknamed Labyrinten (The Labyrinth). Today AF-borgen has ballrooms and assembly rooms, the administration of the Academic Association, a bookstore, a restaurant, a café and offices of various student associations such as the Spex Association . The building is owned by the Lund Academic Association . In 1939 the first public meeting of the Reich Association of Sweden-Germany took place in AF-Borgen .
