The electric rack -and-pinion rail cars of the Altstätten-Gais-Bahn ( AG ) are designated as CFe 3/3 , three of which were purchased when the line opened in 1911. They carried the takeover "Trio", and should actually be correctly labeled as CFeh 3/3, but were never labeled like that, but in the meantime even as CeF 3/3.

history

Railcar CFe 3/3 with passenger car C13 near Gais

They were given company numbers 1–3 upon delivery, later the numbers were changed to 16–18. They have not been able to use their cogwheel route since 1953, as the route has been adapted to the new BCFeh 4/4 6–8 . The catenary voltage on the stretch between Altstätten Stadt and Gais was increased to 1500 volts and the rack was adapted to the SGA standards.

The number 17 (ex 2) was the only railcar to be adapted to the new catenary voltage in 1961, with the gear drive and only one traction motor being installed. It was then referred to as the Xe 2/3 17 and used as a company vehicle until 1981. Between 2002 and 2005 the Xe 2/3 17 was restored and optically returned to the original condition of the number 2. It can be used as a historic vehicle on the adhesion routes of the Appenzeller Bahnen .

The number 18 (ex 3) was drawn together with the CFe 4/4 4 in Gais in 1953 and canceled in 1980.

The former number 1 was used as number 16 as a freight railcar between Altstätten Stadt and the SBB train station until freight traffic was discontinued in 1975. He kept his gear so that he could be towed to the Gais depot for maintenance. It was restored in 1979 using parts of number 18 (ex 3) released for demolition. Outwardly, it was transformed back into the number 3 railcar and transferred to the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne on May 7, 1982 , where it has been preserved as an exhibit to this day.

Technical

The vehicles were manufactured by the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Factory (SLM) in Winterthur together with SIG Neuhausen and Alioth in Münchenstein.

The vehicles have the B'A wheel arrangement and a drive gear. The two motors for adhesion operation have an output of 100 HP and drive the outer axle of the bogie as well as the single axle. The inner axle of the bogie is driven by the outer wheel via coupling rods. There is also the drive gear, which is not permanently connected to the inner axle and which is driven by its own 140 HP motor.
