ARQ is an American - Canadian science fiction film released in 2016 . Directed by Tony Elliott , who also wrote the script. Robbie Amell and Rachael Taylor can be seen in the leading roles . The film premiered on September 9, 2016 at the Toronto International Film Festival . It was published seven days later on the video-on-demand provider Netflix .

Renton wakes up with Hannah, who is lying next to him, and is immediately kidnapped, tied up and threatened by three men with gas masks. When Renton tries to escape, he is killed. But instead of dying, he wakes up again and can remember everything that happened before. Because, as it turns out, he invented a kind of time machine that ensures that the same three hours are played over and over again. So he goes through the kidnapping again and again and tries different actions to escape from the situation.
Awards
Tony Elliott was nominated by the Writers Guild of Canada for his screenplay . Editor Kye Meechan won the Canadian Cinema Editors Award for Best Editing and was nominated by the Directors Guild of Canada in the same category. Oleg M. Savytski was nominated by the Guild for Best Production Design.
