The SB series are two-part narrow - gauge diesel multiple units with a gauge of 950 mm from Ferrovie Appulo Lucane (FAL) in southern Italy . The same vehicles operate the Sardinian Trasporti Regionali della Sardegna (ARST) with the name ADeS .

history

Ferrovie Appulo Lucane

The multiple units were transported to Italy by road. Low loader with SB10B stopping at the Bellinzona -Sud rest area.

In 2011 the FAL ordered five two-part and six three-part diesel-electric multiple units with the designations SB and ST from Stadler Rail for use on the Bari - Altamura - Matera / Gravina route . The order, including spare parts, was worth 45 million euros. For the route from Potenza to Avigliano , a further six SB series multiple units were procured in a follow-up order.

The FAL were able to present the first multiple unit to the public in September 2012, the last one went into operation in May / June 2015. They are assigned to the Bari Scalo and Potenza depots . After their commissioning, the FAL were able to retire the last M2.200 and some M4 .

ADeS04 low-floor train in Alghero

In February 2014, the Sardinian transport operator ARST signed a contract for the delivery of four two-part low-floor multiple units for the narrow-gauge Sassari – Alghero and Sassari – Sorso lines . The contract also includes maintenance for four years. A second order for another five units was signed in December 2015. The first order was delivered in the course of 2015, the second partial series followed from mid-2017.

description

The multiple units of the SB series consist of two closely coupled, air-conditioned multiple units with a total of 100 seats. They were derived from the DE M4c.500 rack-and-pinion rail car from Ferrovie della Calabria (FC), but were built as pure adhesion vehicles. Half of the passenger compartment is low-floor , which, together with the 1300 mm wide entry doors, makes it easier for travelers to get on and off. The carriages of the two-part multiple units each have a motorized and running bogie and can be separated from each other for maintenance if necessary. Air-sprung bogies ensure pleasant travel comfort. Each part of the train has a six-cylinder Cummins diesel engine with an output of 395 kW, which is located above the engine bogie. Two or three units can run under multiple control . The two-part multiple units can later be expanded to a three-part composition analogous to the SB series of the FAL by inserting an intermediate car in the event of capacity bottlenecks.

The trains of the FAL and the ARST differ in the emission standard. While the FAL engines comply with the Euro IIIA emissions standard, the newer trains in Sardinia meet the Euro IIIA category. To do this, the cooling system on the roof had to be adapted.
