history

The Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Oplonti Pro Savoia was founded as AC Savoia on November 21, 1908 in Torre Annunziata , a municipality with now about 44,000 inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Naples in Campania . The name Savoia was given to the newly founded association based on the House of Savoy , a dynasty that provided the Italian kings from 1861 to 1946. The coat of arms of the House of Savoy also became the first logo of the AC Savoia, the club colors were initially set to red and white based on the noble house.

In the first few years of its existence, AC Savoia quickly worked its way up to the highest league in the Campania region, before being promoted to the Prima Categoria in 1920, at that time the top division in Italy , which was, however, divided into regions. The club stayed here for a few years and during this time achieved the greatest success in the club's history to date. In the Italian football championship 1923/24 they reached the final surprisingly after the elimination game in the southern group against Alba Roma could be won 2-0 in the playoff. In the final, the winner of the northern group, CFC Genoa, was waiting . Against Genoa, however, AC Savoia was then defeated, with 1: 3 and 1: 1 they had to give up the final of the Italian championship. After that, AC Savoia quite suddenly disappeared into the insignificance of Italian football. As for the season 1929/30 the Serie A was founded as a single-track first Italian soccer league, was found to AC Savoia only in the fünftklassigen Terza Divisione.

By the end of the fascist dictatorship in Italy, it was no longer able, the former runner-up, third-rate on the Series C get out. It was not until 1946-47 they played second-rate again and booked this year, his first season ever in the series B . This finished in a respectable sixth place in Girone C. In the same year, the club was renamed US Torrese , which was retained until 1955. Only a year after the name change, however, the club had to accept relegation to Serie C after only twelfth in the Girone C of Serie B. Long years of lower class football followed in Torre Annunziata, which would last for more than half a century. It was not until the 1999/2000 season that the club , which had long since been renamed AC Savoia , managed to return to the second division. They had previously occupied fifth place in the C1 series and secured promotion through the playoffs against US Palermo and SS Juve Stabia . With only 29 points reached, however, Savoia immediately descended again. Only a year later, AC Savoia was bankrupt and a new start was made in Eccellenza Campania. After a few years in Serie D , they were relegated to Eccellenza again, but managed to get back up straight away. In the 2013/14 season, AC Savoia was first in Girone I of Serie D in 1908 and qualified for the newly launched Divisione Unica, the new third-highest Italian division.

In 2015, the name of the association was changed to "Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Oplonti Pro Savoia" based on the model of Campania Ponticelli .
